“Internal Sightings” was a series of drawings focused on the horizontal, referencing the trauma of the disabled body entangled with walking sticks and splayed out on the ground. It was an exploration of my body’s internally perceived emotional and physical landscapes through drawing.
In November 2022 I had the opportunity to develop these drawings at the Arcadia Art Gallery as part of a residency called “Wit(n)essing”, created in collaboration with Coman Poon and Brian Smith. I created a series of drawings with conté on Stonehenge paper and then developed an alternate series of drawings on tracing paper, a translucent surface. Layering and interleaving these with ones on Stonehenge, allowed the shadows of earlier drawings to appear in each successive drawing. It was like a performance of memories of the precarious body repeatedly falling.
I attached some of the tracing paper drawings to the gallery walls in order to witness the accumulation of images, their fragility and their responsiveness to air currents and light.
